I think you mean: construction worker, police chief, native american, soldier, "leatherman", and cowboy.
Later the police chief and soldier were also sailors.
From 1981 - 1986, they were all new romantics.
I guess all of the above would have made them feel a little uncomfortable with the conservative and reactionary city life of the late 1970s - early 80s.
